Attractions in Cape Town: V & A Waterfront

Situated at the edge of the city on the Atlantic Ocean and next to the vibrant harbour, the Waterfront is one of Cape Town's top attractions.

  • Alongside the working harbour
  • Favourite with locals and tourists
  • Restaurants, cinemas, boutiques etc.

Cape Town’s harbour was originally built in 1860 and numerous old Victorian buildings were renovated in the 1980s when the exclusive waterfront was built.

What started out as a simple shopping complex has become one of the country’s premier entertainment complexes. It is a favourite venue for locals as well as foreigners. Located around the scenic harbour, restaurants and pubs are situated on different quaysides where ferries and boats for cruises are docked. Apart from jazz cafés, boutiques, craft markets, retail shops, hair dressers and sushi bars, the Waterfront also houses the city’s Aquarium and IMAX theatre. This is also where boat cruises to Robben Island, one of the country’s World Heritage Sites, regularly depart. Other points of interest are the seal landing place at the Clocktower Precinct and the SA Maritime museum.
