Cape Town's West CoastThe West Coast begins just north of the city of Cape Town and stretches along the western coast of South Africa.
Well-known for its atmospheric beaches along windswept coasts on the Atlantic Ocean, the West Coast is one of the most unspoilt regions in the country. This is where the 30 000-hectare West Coast National Park is situated, near the picturesque fishing village of Langebaan. The West Coast national park is a well-known birdwatching spot in the Western Cape and in the beginning of summer, is home ot thousands of migratory birds. In spring, the dry West Coast becomes one of the country’s most famous tourist attractions. Visitors from all over the world come to witness the stunning floral display of carpets of flowers covering the normally desolate north-western parts of the country. The West Coast is popular with surfers, fishermen and those who like to get away from the crowds of tourists who congregate around the more popular southern coastal town. Although the sea is rather too cold for swimming, the charm of the West Coast lies in the atmospheric landscapes and warm hospitality of the people. |
