A comfortable drive from Cape Town on the N1 national road, through the scenic Hex River Valley, brings you to Cape Town's closest private game reserve. Aquila takes its name from the rare Black Eagle that thrives in the area of approximately 4500 hectares of southern Karoo highlands. At Aquila Private Game Reserve, guests enjoy a morning game drive in an open-air landrover, while viewing a variety of indigenous and re-introduced animals, such as Cape Town's closest Rhino, Lion and Giraffe. Large herds of other African wildlife such as zebra, black wildebeest, klipspringer, duiker, greybuck, and ostrich, as well as troops of baboon, reside on the reserve. On the game drives, there are visits to several easily accessible bushman rock art sites dating back thousands of years. The unique opportunity for a horse safari is also available for game viewing.   Before returning to Cape Town a stop is made at Fairview Wine Estate located on the south-west facing slopes of Paarl Mountain, a granite rock outcrop in the heart of the Paarl Wine region for some wine and cheese tasting.
