Day 1: Cape Town to Bainskloof Pass.
A morning departure takes you from the bustling CBD of Cape Town to the French-inspired town of Franschoek, where we visit a wine farm to taste and savour the local beverage. We continue through the winelands over the winding pass through Bainskloof to the mountainside campsite at Tweede Tol. Enjoy dinner under the canopy of pine and oak. Bainskloof pass was opened on the 13/14 September 1853 and this year will be a 150 years old. It was built by Andrew Geddes Bain after whom it was named. The first kilometre or two run through pine forests Once you have past the forest you reach the fynbos on the higher slopes. From the top you can enjoy spectacular views to Wellington. Bainskloof Pass is a natural monument along it's full length. [D]

We camp the night at Warmwaterberg, a spa resort that is pure simplicity with two open pools set against the stark backdrop of the Little Karoo. [BD]
